PSL - Helen Magnus | Ashley Magnus --> I'll find you somewhere, whatever has happened
[ It had been one fight too many. This time she'd been foolish and she knew it. Helen had gone alone, armed but not prepared. They barely had any information and yet she'd gone without back-up. The other teams had been out but the she still could have someone meet her, she knew that. She'd gone in unprepared once before and had never done so again. And now?
Now she was stuck.
Hurt.
She'd left a note of where she'd gone but it was far out, further than she believed they'd be able to get to. The broken bones she could survive but the internal bleeding was the worry. Her head hurt, concussion no doubt, and walking was becoming a struggle. The abnormal that she'd been tracking had disappeared, some time during when Helen had been unconscious.
As for her location? The entrance that she'd used had been brought down - an explosion of some kind - and now she was trying to find another way out, fighting the struggle and trying to ignore the thought that she may not make it home ]
~
[ ashley hadn't been worried at first. her mother did missions all the time and she was a brilliant woman, so what was the point of worrying too much about her when there were things to do at home? that wasn't to say that ashley didn't worry at all about helen - helen was her mother; of course ashley would worry - but she knew her mother could take care of herself and that took some of the worry away.
but when helen didn't return when she was supposed to return, judging by the note anyway, ashley started to worry. she'd tried calling, but got nothing the first time, so she'd taken to tracking. henry had managed to find the place, far out as it was, and ashley decided to go in. will and henry would remain behind, close enough for back-up, but not close enough to get caught up in whatever had gone down. they'd brought supplies on the off chance they'd need things, but ashley was clinging to the hope that her mother was okay.
she tried ringing her on her phone once more before going in. the trick would be finding another entrance. but ashley was nothing if not determined. ]
~
[ The calls didn't get through; her phone had become damaged in the explosion along with everything else. Bruised, injured. Usually Helen would say that she'd had worse but this time? This time she wasn't quite certain.
This time she doubted it.
Helen had walked until the pain had become too intense and even then she'd tried to carry on. She was bleeding out and quickly, that she could tell. Her head felt light and it wouldn't be too long until consciousness was in issue.
She pushed herself again, forcing herself to bite through it. It was her body that gave in before her determination would. She slipped to the floor as her legs gave out beneath her, hand pressed against the wall she'd been using as balance. She'd never admitted defeat before, and she refused to simply die here. But moving was no longer and option. And she was out of anything else ]
~
[ ashley would have thrown her phone in frustration and fear had she not needed to use it to contact will and henry later. so she just pocketed it and turned towards the other entrance - or, where henry had told her one might be. but it was impossible to find. gun out and pointed forward with her flashlight, ashley made her way around, finally slipping between two rock faces to get inside. the trouble was, she knew her mom had been tracking an abnormal. what she didn't know was whether or not that abnormal was still in here with them. ]
Mom?
~
[ Helen was trying to use the wall as leverage, pressing firmly at it and the floor to force herself up. It wasn't easy, she barely had the strength left to do it but she would keep trying; she was going home.
She hadn't gotten far when she heard the voice. The one up side to being stuck in a gave was the echo.
Ashley?
She stopped moving, trying to decide if her injuries were causing her to imagine it ]
Ashley?
[ She called, moving again to try and find her. If Ashley was here it was a little hopeful ]

ashley was told she would just have to wait. she hated that. very much. and still, she refused to leave. her mother wouldn't have left her if the tables were turned. why shouldn't she do the same? ]

Sedating Helen was hard enough to begin, her unique blood chemistry conflicting with it but eventually she was out. With the time spent getting her there and knocking her out they had to catch up. Stopping the bleeding, and keeping her alive, was hard enough as it was and it didn't help that the surgery would take a long time regardless ]

Her pain showed in her expression as well as in a gasp as she tried to move - and she wasn't even moving much, just an instinctual thing after waking up. Oh, she had known that it had been bad but now? Now that she was conscious, not about to pass out? Now she knew even more so ]

...Mom?
[ she almost didn't dare to hope with how long it had been. ]

[ Her voice was barely audible and her throat sore from the intubation. She hadn't misheard, Helen knew that and opened her eyes slowly, seeking Ashley in the room ]

[ in a few seconds, ashley had moved to sit at the very edge of the bed, somewhere close by, but not close enough where she'd be a threat to her mother's health. ]
How are you feeling?
no subject
Better. [ She was no longer dying, as bad as she felt it was an improvement ]
no subject
And that's why I had to check. We've all been worried about you.
[ worried was an understatement. ]
no subject
lightly believed, although if they'd all been worried? That wasn't completely hopeful ]
no subject
I know. We were going to send out a team to track that abnormal you were after once you woke up.
[ and by 'we' she meant herself. ]
no subject
Not you.
[ Helen would authorise a team going but she didn't want Ashley to go alone, certainly not after what had happened to her ]
no subject
[ oh she wasn't planning on going alone. but she did want that thing captured. and she hated sitting around to wait. ]
no subject
[ The sternness in her voice caused her to cough, aggravating not only her throat but where she'd had surgery ]
Please.
no subject
Fine. I'll stay.
[ in the effort of not aggravating her mother's injuries further. but she wouldn't be happy about it. ]
I've already told them where I found you anyway.
no subject
How long was I gone?
[ And by gone she clearl means in surgery but... her fun way with words ]
no subject
Hours. It's almost morning now. [ the procedure itself had taken two or so, but helen had been unconscious for a lot longer and the way ashley refused to meet her eyes would say enough about that. ]
no subject
I'm alright.

[ ashley managed to look at her mother again, a small, sad smile on her lips as she did so. she was holding so much emotion back, had been since she'd found helen in that cave, and now was not the time to show how close she'd come to losing her mother. helen didn't need that worry, too, not after what she'd just been through. ashley gave her hand a squeeze. ]
I know. The doctor said you just need a lot of rest now. He's not very happy about me being in here because he thinks I'll keep you up. I told him he doesn't know you very well.
no subject
You're both right.
[ Helen knew that she needed the rest, and she knew that she'd be getting it - she couldn't really do much at the minute. But having Ashley there would actually help her rest (it would stop her from worrying about her) ]
It will probably be just days before I can be moved home.
[ And if they didn't want to? She'd be adamant about it. Home helped ]
no subject
Then rest. I'll be right here. I promise I won't leave. [ much as she wanted to. she could do work while keeping an eye on her mother. ]
As soon as you're up to it, I'll make it happen. [ will and henry would help, too. they both knew that. ashley made to stand up again to move back to her chair so her mother could rest. ]
